Mike,

I had a similar problem with the HIF44 on my race motor.  However the problem 
was solved by doing exactly the opposite.  The float bowl vent was plugged, and 
opening it up solved the problem.  I ultimately attached a filtered breather to 
it and haven't had any problems since.
