Dear Spridgeteers,
I picked up a battery to put into my recently acquired 72 Midget project car.
After hooking the new battery up, the alternator started letting the magic
smoke escape. The ignition was not on. This car has been sitting for some
time (about one year, according to the PO) without being started. Any
electrical guru types that might venture a guess as to what went wrong -- or a
diagnostic procedure? I wouldn't doubt that this alternator is toast now, but
I want to find out what's up before I fry another one.
