Gage/instrument tip

I have been working on cleaning up my gages this winter. Mainly to clean
out the crumbs of old rubber, etc that were behind the glass. I discovered
a "trick" I'll pass along. It can be difficult to turn the chrome bezel to
the correct position to remove it because it is stuck to the old gasket. I
took a q-tip, dipped it in water, and ran it around the glass-bezel
interface on the front and the bezel - case interface on the back. The idea
is to get some water on the old gasket without soaking the instrument. I
then put the gage in a sealed plastic bag and let it alone for a few hours.
The gasket soaked up water and became pliable. If not, add more water, put
back in bag and be patient. Sure worked well for me. New gaskets are
available on E-bay from a guy in Florida. Also a guy in Canada.
