Hi, Neil....welcome.

The first 3 gears of the Datsun 5 speed are
slightly lower than those of a ribcase.

So, I use the 5 speed teamed with a 3.7. The
engine is a Cooper S tune 1293 with the cam advanced 4 degrees for Metro inlet
timing.

So, It's a "stoplight to stoplight" street
torquer with the ability to cruise economically at legal limited access highway
speeds +.

The Datsun box is way more quiet than it's
ribcase counterpart. Rebuilds are a little cheaper as well, and first gear
synchro is
nice to have.

Additionally, the Datsun box is designed to handle a lot more torque than the
average
spridget can produce so should last many
moons.

All around, the Datsun 5 speed is, IMHO,
one of the better, if not the best, upgrade
to a Spridget, state of tune notwithstanding.
