Larry,
What worked for me was heating the junction of the two parts with the
propane torch for a few minutes, then simultaneously whacking the "eye" of
the steering arm on opposite sides with a pair of hammers. Kind of a
variant of the "seed squeezed between fingers" approach. Worked on the
Austin which hadn't been apart for 45 years.
