crrectamundo! the year they started to change over was from datsun to
nissan was 1979. my certification tests in the parts department were
nissan labeled and marketed (in english of course) for datsun
professionals. parts started coming in nissan packages as opposed to
datsun packages that year. prior to 1979 ALL parts we recieved were in
"original datsun parts" packaging.
by 1985 it was all nissan. the reason datsun was "made up" for north
america was nissan feared failure in the market. if datsun failed ,
nissan would save face and not be insulted or embarassed in their home
country! BTW? the first datsun roadsters(spl 311?) & 240Z's were badged
as "fairlady"'s. original parts catalogs for these models and all prior
models were about the size of a common owner's manual. and do not even
get started on the "nissan patrol" wich looked very much like the jap. WW2
jeep! LOL!
