Mech fuel pump

I've found a 1275 with a provision for a mech fuel pump. Right now it  has a 
blanking plate over the hole. What BMC car would this have gone into?  Does 
anyone know if the mech fuel pump from my 948 will work? Any thoughts with  
today's 10% alcohol fuel in the summer if it is better to push fuel with an 
elec  
pump at the tank , or pull it with the mech unit on the engine? On performance 
 cams, is there a lobe to even run a mech pump? Thanks all,---------------Bob
