Hi,
I've had luck in the past using a bolt. Just find a high grade bolt
with major/minor diameter that straddles the ID of the bearing. For
example, if your bearing ID is .500, then look to use a 9/16 fine or
5/8 course thread bolt. You can use a tap to make a few threads. If
you must, use the proper drill for the tap first. You can probably
get the 5/8 course to go in without much prep. Or, you can just force
the bolt in and let it make the threads. Just drive the bolt in and
when it bottoms it will push the bearing out. You can combine this
technique with the grease/hydraulic technique. And, if you get good
thread purchase, you can use a puller on the bolt head if you want.
You can also use a grinder to taper the tip of the bolt to help start
the driving if you don't want to use a tap first. The only problem
with the bolt method is that it ruins the bearing, which shouldn't be
a problem in most cases as it is the bearing that you are wanting to
replace, right?
Cheers,
Derf
