Hello WFO,

here's what happened... they TALKED about setting roll over
standards... then when they did an analysis of the crash data
they found that the cars that actually rolled over in REAL
world accidents as opposed to what modeling showed were the
most likely to roll over, they found that it was mostly SPORTS
CARS that actually had the highest incident rates!!!! they
discovered that the biggest contributing factor to roll over
accidents was DRIVER ERROR!!!!!! they DID enact rules as was
stated on the list that the "A" pillar must be able to support
the car, but they never made roll bars mandatory.. VW,
anticipating such a law in 1980 came out with the Rabbit
Convertible, later to become the cabriolet with the integral
roll bar in order to be able to meet the "proposed" standards
.. two years later Chrysler came out with the K-car convertible
without any such roll bar and has been making either it or the
sebring convertible ever since, again without the bars. the
mazda miata, bmw Z series.. .. etc .. because NO SUCH LAW OR
REGULATION was ever actually passed or enacted.
