The motors are the same.  The difference is the "head" of the starter. 
The Gustafson version has a head that keeps the motor close to the car's
engine.  The Isuzu trooper version has a head that has the starter motor
held away from the engine.  You have to pound a bit of the firewall on
the car for the Isuzu version to clear it.  Also, the battery connection
on the starter is underneath the starter motor when it is installed, so
it is a bit inconvenient.

The Isuzu version can be bought for $65, while the Gustafson type stuff
range from $190 to $250 or so.  The extra amount you're paying is for is
making the head from billet.  The actual starter is no better than the
Isuzu.

Also, you can buy the Isuzu starter at your local auto parts store with a
lifetime warranty.  If it fails, just take it back.  I've done this at a
race weekend when I've had one fail (racecars are tough on 'em, but I've
