I don't think it was cellulose.  That would have been a lacquer, not an 
enamel.
The original brochure says enamel.

It answers everything.  It tells you what the dip was and so much more.

Everyone should be happy to know there is a fine
modern substitute paint you can find right at your local hardware store
that should give you that original look and feel.

Stove Enamel = Oil Alkyd Resin.

Better known today as Rustoleum...
