Use a bit of water soluble lube on the hose and it wil slip on easily.

You can simply use a piece of 1/2 inch diam. inner hole heater hose or fuel
line.  Make it a tiny bit shorter than the space where it will be and kink it
in the middle while putting it on.  You should not have to remove much of
anything.
