Simple on how to rough up only the place the stripes are to be painted. Did
you use base coat / clear coat on the new paint job? If so, mask the whole
car leaving only the area to be striped and then sand with 800 grit.
Re-tape edges of the stripes (because sanding will have made little feathers
on the original tape) and then shoot paint. Unmask, sand with 1000 grit,
feather out into the clear coat with scotch brite and spray clear. Then
re-sand with 1000, then 1200, then buff with a medium compound then fine
compound on foam pad and finish off with a glaze. Wala,,,, no stripe line
ridge.

I have a newly painted (today) leaf green bugeye. Before I start to put
everything back on, I'm giving serious consideration to stripes, wide ones
like the red on silver ones on an earlier post, but perhaps Old English
White on the Leaf Green. My question is--- how do you get clean edges? I
had someone paint Shelby stripes on my 66 Mustang fastback, and I helped
apply the tape, but I don't remember what kind if tape we used.
Also, if you paint the stripes, how do you rough up the new paint only
where the stripes are intended to go?
Thanks.
