There was of course, more than one way of recording Hp in the '30s.
One a measure of engine power and the other for the taxation class.
Anyway, "well researched" means they looked it up somewhere and found it in
print.
Maybe a contemporary newspaper or advertisement but there is no reason to
suppose newspapers were any more accurate then than they are now.
Interesting though!
