Non-sealed beam headlights were illegal in the US from the late thirties to
the early eighties. I don't think any new Sprites could have been sold here
with bulbs. Ford finally proved to our government that they could get better
gas mileage by using halogen bulbs. That's why a lot of our imports had
uglier front ends than their European counterparts.
