Michael,

I replace my rear window using marine grade clear vinyl and glue. It has
held up now for 5+ years.

I carefully cut my rear window out from the outside using the top as my
cutting guide. My old window was heat welded to the top. Then using the old
cut-out window as a guide and a small jig made a new window 1/2" larger all
around the outside cut edge. Flipped the top so I was now working from the
inside of the top and glued the new window in along the old heat welded
seam. As I said it's held up to weather, driving with the top up and no side
curtains. The whole secret was the glue I used. Bought two tubes at the
local discount store, Ollie's, to try as they were two for a buck. The stuff
is or should I say was great. The stuff I bought was "QUALCO Clear Vinyl Rip
Repair". When I went back to Ollie's it was sold out and I have never seen
it anywhere else. The stuff dried clear was flexible, and held like snot.

I used the remaining small amount I had to repair a eight inch slash someone
put in my sons cloth convertible top. I used a piece of cloth backed vinyl
and glued it in from the inside after releasing the tension on the top so I
could get the edges to line up. After it dried clipped the hold downs and it
held. That was 4+ years ago and it's still holding. He 'commutes' 120 miles
a day and the top stays up 99% of the time.
