Mike,
As long as you have the engine out it would be pretty easy to pull the pan
and inspect the main bearings. It would be a pretty good idea to check the
thrust bearings. Might as well pull the head and check the valves and
cylinder bores. Oh, and the big end bearings are right there. When was the
last time you checked the timing chain? Don't forget to check the condition
of the cam. And the dizzy might be getting a bit worn. I'm sure your
machinist would be very helpful in these endeavors....
