Turns out it was 2 corroded connection and one busted bullet connector. All
fixed (light wise) and ready for inspection. Thanks for the advise.

i first thought that but wouldn't that cause the lights to not work when the
headlights or the turn signals were on. These 2 lights work when the tur
signals are on but not when the headlights are on.?

Have you checked that you have a good ground at the lights? Bad grounds can
create havoc.

The speedometer is weird. The cable is driven by a worm gear of the third
motion shaft. It has no way of knowing what gear you are in. Did you check to
see that all the cables are on tight and the cable is lubricated?

Ah that lovely time every year when those minor issues suddenly become
worrisome.
My inspection is scheduled for Thursday and a few issues that I have been
ignoring are potentialey going to be big issues.

Lights: my passenger side front and side running lights do not work but do work
when I use my right turn signal. Any ideas as to where the connection to fix
this might be ( and please don't say under/behind the dash)?

Speedomiter: yes once again I have neglected doing anything to try and fix this
because who looks at the speedomiter when driving you look at the road listen
to the engine and try not to pass too many people. but seriously the cable
spins fine through 1st and 2nd but in 3rd after 40 mph the needle just works
its way to 70, 80, 90... and often does settle down till i have come to a
complete stop. shifting to 4th gives me a moment of "real speed determination"
before it to heads towards triple digits. however on longer rides it begins to
react less and less and then eventually the cable stops spinning altogether.
This I am hoping I will be able to fix at our next OSHIT and since the mechanic
only takes it for a short "test drive" i will pass fixed or not.

But the light issue I need to fix ASAP or at least before wed. night.
Help!
