The top 1% pay 40% of federal taxes
The top 10% pay 71% of taxes
While the bottom 50% pay a whopping 3%
The group often defined as upper middle - 50-90% based on income pay 26%.

I could be wrong ( yet again ), but I would bet that it is the middle class
