Ok, since Ford is not considered to be an authority on the 260/289 engine on
this list I decided to see what other sorces have to say...

Tom Monroe in "How to Rebuild your SMALL-BLOCK FORD" says (in Chapter 5,
"Oil Pump and Drive Shaft" on page 73 of my 1978 edition), talking about
sources of oil pump damage,...

"Damage occurs when metal or dirt particles pass through the pump. This
happens when some other component is chewed up- such as cam lobe or lifters-
or the OIL FILTER CLOGS UP AND OIL *BYPASSES THE FILTER*, resulting in large
dirt particles circulating through the engine and the oil pump."

I added the caps and *s' for emphasis.

I also found in a text on automotive engine therory and servicing...

"All oil filters or filter adaptors have a bypass valve. OIL CAN *BYPASS
THE FILTER* WHEN THE OIL IS COLD OR THICK OR IF THE FILTER PLUGS."

I added the caps and *s' for emphasis.

Also, I can find no evidence in any of the 6 or so diagrams I have of the
260/289 small block Ford lubrication system of any relief discharge into the
pan.

BTW, I am not denying that the Ford small block has a full flow oil system.
I am just offering evidence that, under certain conditions, the oil "fully
flows" around the filter.

I'd like to get this straight, please provide evidence that 260/289
discharges relief oil into the pan.
