Dear Mr. LeBrun,
Thank you for your letter letting me know about your support for Senate
Bill 42. After reviewing all the evidence, I am convinced that 1973 and
older vehicles should be exempt from the smog emission program. I was
very persuaded by the letters and phone calls I received from many
Californians who related their personal experiences and problems caused
by the inclusion of classic cars within the smog emission program.
Just to give you an update on Senate Bill 42 -- the bill passed out of my
committee, the Assembly Committee on Appropriations, on September 4 by a
vote of 20-1. The full Assembly will vote on the bill during the week of
September 8. I fully expect that it will pass the Legislature, and then
the Governor would have a few weeks to decide whether to sign or veto the
measure.
