Rootes Group cars were a common feature in science fiction of the '50's and
'60's. Laumer frequently has a Humber somewhere in the action, and
Heinlein begins STRANGER IN A STRANGE LAND with Ben Caxton sending a
'Talbot' taxi to pick up a nurse. Science fiction authors are exceedingly
careful to remind their readers that they are NOT prophets, so I guess
their inability to see what was soon going to happen to the Rootes Group is
understandable!
