Well, I certainly got a lot of response with that one. My concern with
running tubes in thr LAT70 wheels is the lack of a tire retaining bead on
the wheel and the very rough, surface that the tire has to seal against.
neither my LAT 70's nor my steel spare wheel have the bead that is supposed
to hold the tire in place when it is deflated. By the best of my
understanding of wheel design, these whels were not designed to run
tubeless tires, although I would expect it to be possible if one can
overcome the leaks. without the extra bead, or ridge of metal on the
mounting flange, it would be easy for the tire to break loose and deflate
if the pressure was not high. Though I know the wheels can run 130 mph, my
concern there is the effect of a tube on the speed rating of the tire. The
wheels on my car have been on there since I came to know this particular
car in the early 70's, and the wheels had been around the block a few times
then, so I do not think they could be a reproduction. Does anyone have LAT
70 wheels that are designed for tubeless, or is everyone just running
tubeless anyway. And if I'm the only one with tube type wheels, where the
heck did these things come from anyway??
