Hello Jan And Everyone Else:

I'm replying to the general Tiger list, as well as to Jan, since Jan posted to
the whole list. I'm also including my original post so those who may have
deleted it get the whole context.

I will preface this note by saying that I think that everyone who knows me, and
members of CAT who get the club magazine that I edit, will agree that I have
pretty much always tried to keep out of the petty politics and Rootes
historical revisionism that a very few self proclaimed know it alls seem to get
some kind of perverse pleasure out of spreading. However, Jan's friendly
posting to the list, plus some of the drivel I've received over the net and
elsewhere from those who claim to be higher authorities about The Rootes Group
than people who worked directly for the factory, and the silly sniping back and
forth between various factions, has finally succeeded in generating a response
from me on the subject. I think many will agree that we own our Sunbeams to
have a good time, for the common connection they give us with other Rootes
owners all over the world, and because we all must be nuts to pour all the time
and money that we do into 30 year old cars!

To answer Jan directly, point by point: 1. I am not kidding. The Temecula swap
meet was not a fiasco, but instead generated numerous positive comments. Jane
and I both enjoyed it, and the whole event. I have never heard Dale, or anyone
else for that matter, complain about the concours or parts swap at that event.
2. Jan hypothesizes that this is constructive advice. Jan, if you weren't
trying to make a negative statement, you would have communicated with me
privately and not on the general list. 3. No, I will not post judging criteria
for the concours event. First of all, if you want to nit pick the event, before
it happens, over the net, what you should do is next time volunteer to put on
Tigers United yourself, instead of griping and complaining in public. That way
you can set up the scoring, or anything else, any way you want. Secondly,
posting the scoring criteria for any event ahead of time would be patently
unfair. 4. Finally, since you have not yet signed up for the event, why do you
care?

Here's the bottom line: As of 10 PM, California time, Wednesday, 108 people are
signed up, with 48 Tigers, 7 Alpines and other non Rootes entries, several
additional entries on the way, people coming from as far away as Australia, all
60 rooms reserved for United at the Northwoods Resort are taken, and we have
only one plan for the weekend of June 26-27 & 28, and that is to have FUN. Our
sole goal for this event is to make sure that everyone else does the same, and
has a great time.

Steve & Jane Sage
