Repro vin plates

To all:
A customer of mine recently purchased a MK1A Tiger that is correct in every
way except it does not have a vin plate. (It was apparently lost during the
repainting process). The question is this: Is it kosher to affix a repro vin
plate to the car and still meet DMV and TAC standards? The plates are
available from selected restoration shops and this guy even has the correct
rivets. Any help would be appreciated.
