Jim,

I know I'm going to miss a few details, as it was 2 years
ago, but it's really simple.

0) Disconnect the battery!!!!!
1) Remove outer housings (screws underneath - don't lose
screws or rubber plug on left side)
2) If they are ugly faded, while they are off, clean and
spray flat black, or semi gloss black and color sand smooth,
then clear gloss. Nothing to do with the signals.
3) As I recall, there is a 2 piece band holding the assembly
to the steering column with two bolts holding them
together. Loosen band.
4) Rotate assembly till pointy thing is on left side. Watch
out for the wires. They should still be coming out the
assembly in the original manner. Might have had to take the
clamp band apart and re-route the wires to the original
location.
5) Clamp it back together, but don't pinch the wires.
6) Check the adjustment of that bent signal return metal tab
with the plastic spring arms. This should return and
lightly return the signal. You don't want to break the
plastic. The metal tab arm can be bent with a small pliers.

7) Re-assemble outer clam housings (after they dry), but
this time put the rubber plug on the right side. (Unless you
have an Alpine with electric overdrive control switch, that
I think is in the 'correct' position originally. Not sure,
as I haven't seen one I know is original.)

That's it, as I recall. - Oh yes, reconnect the battery
now, and don't let any of the smoke escape from the wires.
