Chris, from all of the people, literature, and manufacturers that I have
talked to, they have a consensus of 2 1/4" as the max. size. for up to
5.0 L, with headers and mild cam. Too large a pipe and you loose
velocity. You can use this size throughout from the headers, through
Offset In/Center Out Flow Masters. You can also use a H-Pipe after the headers.

In order not to crimp the pipes as they go through the X-frame, you can
make a new hole in the x-frame using 3" diameter steel conduit, found at
electrical stores, put in vise, and reduce size to approximately 2 3/4",
then weld into x-frame. This suggestion came from Dale A, if I
remember, and a neat trick for the exhaust.

You will have to use a die grinder on the x-frame to fit the new tubes
in, but you will have a stronger x-frame and if you have rust there it
will solve two problems.

Sounds like a lot of work for the exhaust, but worth it, and take
little money and your time.

Good Luck

Larry
