Chris, et al.

The Performer RPM has almost the same height as the F4B, and would fit fine,
with
the stock air cleaner, provided you do not have:

1) Extra thick filter element. (Recommend K&N, available from S.S.)
2) Extra thick base gasket or added plates.
3) Extra tall carb. Edelbrock 500 and 600 CFM and Holley 465 and 600 are OK.
4) Strange motor mounts or spacers.
5) Extra long air cleaner threaded post
6) Non-original air cleaner wing nut, instead of plain nut.

You will need to modify any manifold to have the correct thread for the correct
temp sender. Although many have suggested Teflon tape padding, this is really
not
a good solution. The normal American hole is a tapered pipe thread, and your
sender is a straight thread. The diameters are such that neither a re-tap, or
insert tap will work, as the re-thread will remove more than all the insert, and
it will be too high, as well.

Best solution is find a good heliarc welder. Have him machine the original hole
into a conical shape, so he can get the tip of his welder to the bottom, and
have
a clean surface to work on. Fill the hole, form the bottom up, with aluminum
weld. Drill and tap the correct size for your sender.

Before you 'slam' your hood, place lightly crumpled balls of aluminum foil in
the
center of the air cleaner, and at the two forward edges. Close hood lightly.
Lift and observe remains of aluminum. Make sure there is enough clearance for
motor torque rock.
