Listers,
I have been off of the list for a while as I have been travelling a lot.
I have returned home for a WHOLE WEEK and started a project to reseal the
front windshield. After removing it from the car I found the PO had
siliconed the windshield to body seal to the body in his attempt at sealing
the water leaks out.
I looked very carefully for the hard rubber wedges that everyone has
discussed and they were not there. In their place was two hard rubber 1/8"
shims 2" long and about 1" wide with a hole through them and they had the
end windshield frame stud poking through them. I am confident this is NOT
the factory arrangement as the windshield had been slammed up against the
vent windows and has damaged the Right one by wearing a big groove in it.
(Any spares out there!!)What I need is some direction as to how to mount
this screen and obtain the correct angle to provide adequate vent window
clearance. I do already know that I need to get some rubber shims with 1/4"
thickness and cut into a wedge, but what are the dimensions of the shim
(Length width) and what is the exact placement. It is obvious to me that the
end of the frame has a big gap where the stud goes in and should this be
filled with some form of rigid sealer or is this where the wedge is supposed
to fit in. IE: do you slide the wedge over the stud or what??

On another note there was some speculation about windscreen frame colouring
and what was done at the factory. Theo and I debated this, his frame is
semigloss black and mine is white (Code 92) his is a later body with square
hood and square trunk, where mine is square hood and round trunk. After
disassembling my frame it is very obvious that the original colour was white
with a red oxide primer underneath with specific areas brushed semigloss
black. Those brushed are are: the center bolt area and the side uprights
where the seals attach onto the pinchweld area. I guess this last area is to
"Hide" the gap between the seals by making it black. While my frame is white
and I will be painting it back that color, I like how Theos frame looks all
black as it kind of blends in with the dash. 

I plan on getting the color by using our formula "Camera". As I work for
Sikkens every one wanted a formula for their car's original color. In order
to create it I need to "scan" each "original" color. As I have some
unexposed color on the windshield Frame I plan on using that to sample and
create a formula for sikkens. Unlike our competitors cameras, our camera
actually creates a NEW formula using the databank of existing formulas as a
starting point and then modifies the closest matching color formula for an
exact match. For those of you out there that are looking for colors for your
car, try to find some original coating somewhere on your car...like inside
the doors or the windshield frame or in the trunk, etc. 

I am planning to finish this project this week so any help via the list
would be greatly appreciated with regards to the location and size and shape
of the wedges.
