A fellow Tiger owner friend is looking for a SCCA vintage race-ready Tiger or,
(shudder) Morgan. If anyone has offerings or suggestions, pass 'em on to me,
and I'll pass 'em on to him....

Tim,

There are two types of adjustable Koni hydraulic shocks. The original designs,
which I have used since the late 50's, were adjustable for wear to return to the
factory settings. This is done by removing the bottom connection of the shock,
manually collapsing it until it is closed. This brings internal tooling in
contact. The inner tube is rotated to 'screw' the adjustment in (right hand
rule,
like a bolt) a turn. This would allow a shock, whose normal life in those days
was about 10,000 miles, to run 100,000 miles.

You can tell if a shock is worn if it easily collapses. A 50/50 shock will
collapse, or extend, at the same rate when pushed or pulled with the same force,
or rate.

I have a set of these type on the front of my Tiger.

There was a recent issue of a different design made specifically for the Tiger,
and carried by Sunbeam Specialties and CAT. They were about $125/shock, and
initially were available for front and rear. They were externally adjustable
for
dampening by screw head sticking out of the top of the fastening bolt stem. A
special short screwdriver was provided with a set to adjust this while
installed.
The rears could be reached under the rubber plugs in the trunk, and the fronts
above the suspension..

I have a set of these on the rear, but have left them at the factory setting,
as
it feels fine.

Hope this helps.

Steve
