I also used Standard FX-33 for generator brushes years back.  No
problems.  All worked well until something happend in the windings this
summer.

The bearing were Federal Mogul U17 203-FF and SKF 6200-2RS1/C3QE6HT51.
or so it says on the boxes.  Replace them while you have things apart.
