Traction Master Mounting Pads:

I have 3 sets of T-M Traction Bars. 1 original LAT-5 weld-on (slightly
bowed), 1 brand new version LAT-6 bolt-on (installed), and an NOS (in
the original box and '66 newspaper stuffing) version for the Sunbeam
Alpine Rally/Race version.

All use the same axle mount design approach. However:

The weld-on has the "different corner notch", the Alpine set has the
notches, but they are both on the same corner, and the newest version
has not notches at all!

In discussing this with Traction Masters, they related that the reason
for the notch, at all, was to try to have at least one nut on a "U" bolt
to hold the stock plate in place during assemble. It really did not
matter which. In fact, they stopped making two sets of hardware, part
way through production, and just used the one casting mold. That's why
the slightly later Alpine set has both pieces with the same notch.

The new design has NO corners clipped, as they stopped trying to use the
old bottom plate. This is actually good, as the U Bolts do not have to
be changed to longer ones. (Just make sure the nuts are good grade 8's).

The Rootes LAT group were a very "flexible" organization.

My $0.02

Steve
