I got and installed the free replacement magnet ring from Pertonix today
for my Ignitor II ignition. It has cured my one cylinder no fire problem
from the defective magnet ring that came with the new kit that I had
installed. Idle is now smooth as can be and it starts instantly hot or
cold. However, it does still do one interesting thing, although it
doesn't seem to affect performance. All cyls. now fire perfectly at idle
and upon acceleration. One cyl., though, when you rev it and take your
foot off, misses a few firings on the way back down to idle. The other 7
cyls. fire steadily on the way down. Also, I noticed that the new rotor
and distributor cap I had installed when I put in the new ignition have
some carbon on them (the rotor has it on about 1/2 of the tip, and the
cap has some on the eight contact points). It will be interesting to see
if this cleans up now that all 8 cyls.are firing at idle.

Next question for the group. I added the "called for" second advance
spring to my distributor advance weights (I had been getting pinging on
hard acceleration) that I had found to be missing. Good news: No more
pinging. Bad news: It seems to be not as fast. I think I'll try setting
the timing a bit more advanced (just up to a pinging condition and then
just slightly back). Or, maybe I should run the distributor with just
the one spring and retard the timing a bit overall. What do you all
think? (or maybe I should just get it to a dyno shop)
