Sill hole strangeness

Hi,  I have three sets of sill finisher trim.  All sets fit fine on the
passenger sides but only the piece from the oldest most grungy looking set
fits on the drivers side using the original mounting hole locations.  It
looks like a few of the drivers side mounting holes will need to be
redrilled to use either of the drivers side pieces from the new sets.  Is it
common to have to redrill when you change sill finishers?
