I've had BOTH the Edelbrock carb AND the vacuum secondary Holley on
various Mustangs and the Tiger.

My cut is that the single, dry gasket makes the Edelbrock a lot more
reliable, but responders are correct, the "Premium" Holley gaskets are a
lot better now, but they need to be.

The Edelbrock is NOT just a polished Carter, but one that has been
re-designed by Weber. The race tuning kits are available, and easy to
change. Easier than the Holley, but just like the Holley - you have to
know how to do it.

The Holley I have (Stock LAT 2 465 CFM vacuum secondary) has backfire
protectors, now, to stop blowing out power valves), lots of kits for
performance tuning, including secondary spring sets - again, if you know
what you are doing.

The float bowls can be changed to enter pivot, and you can even get them
polished. More people make parts and tools for the Holley, as it is a
popular carburetor.

A lot of people swear by the steady smoothness of the Edelbrock.

They both have their features, and arguing which is best requires a
knowledge of it's application. Worse than Fords vs. Chevys. {9->

Edelbrock now makes a 500 CFM version, which is ideal for all-round
performance and economical street use as well. It is, like the smaller
Holley, a lot more responsive and no lag, sog, bog, or flat spots, once
set-up, than a larger carb that flows better at wide open throttle, but
has various issues in-between - depending on what's been changed on the motor.

It really is an art to select the correct carb and mods for the
particular engine and application. Everyone does not wear the same shoes.
