You bet.  Ford has been using nylon gears for years.
All Tigers have them.  That's why when you work on the
engine you go to a double roller steel gear and chain.
The nylon gears will last 5000 to 200000 miles.  Pick
a number.  That's the problem.  Look for small pieces
of the gear in the oil pan when changing oil for an early
warning.  The gear teeth breaking is usually caused
by backfiring.
