Dave,

I see no cause for fear about the nearness of the rear mounting nuts to
the gas(oline?) pipes. The SU fuel joints and seals are just over the muffler.

Besides, these bumpers and overriders are NOT merely for decoration, or
a sadistic joke.

They are part of two seperate mandatory requirements:

1) The US law has required "bumpers" since late 1949, when they first
put them on the MG-TC. Turn signals to, and those cute little flag arms
were verbotten.

2) They supply a steady source of income to the poor dealers and
mechanics replacing them from the mearest tap. Would you want to deprive
an honest workman his livelihood? Especially when he has his wife
driving the big sedan all around town to park in front or back of a
Sunbeam and give it a gentle "tap". Put the whole family in the poor house.

Now that you know the reality of it, please take back your anti-social
