Thanks for the many suggestions as to the possible causes of the Tiger's
5 speed trans. very "notchy" shifting. The slave cylinder was rebuilt on
Thursday (leaking) and the conclusion is that the shifter mechanism
itself, not the transmission, is probably the culprit. There are
apparently "early" and"late" versions of the shifter on my trans. and
the later one I have has a very short "throw". When the trans. was first
installed a year ago, on top of the short throw shifter assembly, it
also came with a very short shift lever. It was real notchy and the
shift throw was so short, you could barely tell if it was in gear or
not. I installed a longer shift lever back then, and it was somewhat
improved, but no winner. I'm going to try the "early" shifter version in
the next week or so, which I'm told will probably shift smoother, but
with a longer throw required, which is OK with me. I'll let the list
know if this solves the problem when I get it in.
