A while ago I posted a question asking if anyone has found replacements for
unavailable trim pieces for hardtops. Neither Curt or Rick or anyone
carries these pieces. Specifically the 1/4 window weather strip and the
wind lace along the horizontal that covers the headliner clips and forms a
weather seal as well. I was also looking for the grommet for the 1/4
window screw that fits the 1" chrome plug for the closer/opener. well I
have found some decent replacements. they look good to me and if you need
them you may want to check them out for yourself. Restoration Specialties
(catalog on line, worth a look anyway as they have a ton of stuff) carries:
for the wind lace I bought part number 500SC, I got black, they have
various colors. has the nice cloth covering, seems a perfect fit. $3 a
foot, comes in many colors.
For the 1/4 window BZ617, real nice clip on seal. you'll need to cut it
and fit it but once it is in should look great. there may be too much
rubber on the outside but you can trim that as well and make it look just
like the original. it has a tube seal on the outside, probably need to
take a thin slice out of the tube. $2 a foot.
for the grommet, the old one on mine had come apart. the big end stayed
on the chrome outside plug (the part visible from outside the car) the
problem was the inside and through the glass. the solution was to do a two
piece grommet. leave the old part on the plug and add a new piece from the
inside. grommet number 4419 at 50 cents fits perfectly. you need to cut
it longitudinally (like a bagel) and then it matches perfectly with the
plug through the glass.
A bit of a disclaimer here. I haven't actually put the top back togther
but I do have the parts and they do look very good. These part numbers and
