Listers,
I used the Cast iron Bellhousing that is used on trucks. It requires some
welding and relocating the one of the starter bolts but works great. I also
worked with Paul Parretti the "tinman" and we built a special block plate
that works with a 5.0 engine configuration (6-bolt). The cast iron one is a
little stronger than the aluminum one but is certainly no scattershield. I
got the bellhousing from Dan Walters and he had several more. Not sure of
the application as Dan was not specific. You could definitely use the
blockplate to "map" where the starter bolt hole needed to be relocated to.
The important thing is that the reference hole is in the correct location
... and it is!
I used a mini starter and rotated the solenoid assembly to provind maximum
clearance to the headers. I also ran a small wire from the solenoid to the +
lead location from the original starter so it hooked up just like the
original Tiger starter.
