The PO of my car went to extra-ordinary steps of standing behind the
muffler guy to make sure he did not weld all those original clamped
joints. They will do it every time, as it is less likely to leak, and
easier for them. Which is why most you see are welded.
The original is clamped.
The Original Rootes Parts Service Manual, on
http://www.TigersUnited.com, shows each part, and joint in the exploded
view, as well as the original part numbers. The "U" shaped hanger
brackets were welded.
