Hello Sunbeamers:
I'm suspcious of my ignition switch (with is very "notchy" when turning
it, but don't know why this would cause what it's doing. I do have a new
one on order from SS). When the car is warm (normal running temp.) it
will occassionaly give you a "bump" when heading down the road (like a
sudden miss ..kind of like someone tapped the bumper from behind) and,
worse, will sometimes stall from idle. Idle is smooth, but the motor
just shuts down. (Electrics are all working even after this happens,
except the car just stalls. It's then sometimes hard to start. The first
time this happened, I revved the starter for quite a while, it wouldn't
start, and two or three seconds later it did a serious backfire out the
pipes. It then started up after that. Then I can drive it for a day or
two with no problem, then it happens again. All wiring seems to be
connected properly (I had thought I found and fixed a loose wire to the
ignition, but the problem has returned). This is a recent development I
posted last week, but mistakenly thought I had fixed it. The only recent
messing about with the Tiger I've done is adding a heat shield under the
carb base, and adjusting the Holley's idle screws (could something be
going on there? But it does do that "bump" at cruising speed sometimes)
I wonder if the PCV valve could suddenly close up for some reason??? Any
ideas on how to trouble shoot why this happens would be greatly appreciated!
