The advantages of the bigger flywheel is that it allows you to use a larger
(stronger) clutch and pressure plate for higher horsepower applications.
There are many high performance after-market flywheel, clutch, pressure plate
and throw-out bearings available. If you are not planning to put bigger
horsepower and torque (more than 350 hp and 350 ft/lbs) then stay with the
smaller flywheel but go with the highest quality parts you can get. It is not
too easy to work on a Tiger...do it once and do i right!
The larger stock Ford bell housing for the 164 tooth setup will fit the Tiger
with no modifications to the car. The only difference between the stock Ford
bell housings is a slight outward rotation for the starter mounting location
to clear the larger flywheel.
