Patrick,
Both of those are interesting ideas, although they might be mutually
exclusive without different participants in each case or people with a lot of
free time on their hands (since I think they run within a few days of each
other). I'd be willing to try to coordinate if a group wanted to come up for
H.A.N. But I don't think I have to tell you that even something loosely
organized should have been started 6 mo. minimum ago.
In favor of the idea is the drift of the event toward inclusion of street
rods and other 'sort-of' period vehicles. The Tiger is the right time frame,
but isn't usually thought of as American muscle, though of course it was.
That would make a group that stuck together a bit a real hit, especially if
some of the high performance personalized cars like yours came along.
Biggest negative point is lodging. I don't honestly know if things are as
tough as they used to be, but there was a point when a few days before the
event, every available room up to 30 miles out of town was sold -- for the
next year's event!!
Next biggest is that I'm wired this summer (gone 3rd week of July and
hosting my own little family jamboree 3rd week of Aug. for Shakespeare at
Tahoe -- lots of prep). And trying to get my car out of the paint shop and
onto the road before the snows come. But that's not a dodge. If people want
to come and I can help in any way, let me know. Ask around a bit and if there
looks like some interest I'll put it on this list too.
The race guys up here are the most likely to want to go to Monterey. Paul
N. in South Lake is a natural, but pretty wired with his biz in the summer.
I'll ask around, let me know if a group thing is shaping up in the Bay!
I think the general idea is a natural and I like your suggestions; we
might try to think of more. Using other people's events is a great way to
have an interim T.U. without someone like you having to put their life into
it. By the way, when we went up to Tahoe about three weeks before the event
to scout around, there was some sort of sizable Pantera event going on (never
saw one stopped to ask). What about a joint event with other 'hybrid' clubs
-- Shelby's, Pantera's, Griffith's, maybe even Cobra's. A 'high profile'
showing in that company would perhaps be even better.

                                       Chris

  Chris
I like the idea of high profile events for the Tiger. Maybe we don't have to
wait for a United. How about a group of cars at Hot August Nights ( Ihave
gone
the last three years and mine was the only car I saw). Or a group of cars to
support the Tigers racing at the Monterrey Historics.
  Patrick
