FWIW:
I just changed the wheels and tires on my Tiger from 13 inch to 14's.
I had a set of the old Libra mags (sold by Shelby back in the late 70's -
early 80's) with 185/70HR13's mounted. I had put the wheels and tires
on shortly before the Tiger was parked for an extensive period (like
18 years). Having recently restored the Tiger and gotten it back on
the road, I thought it would be a good idea to replace the tires as
they were upwards of 20 years of age, even though they have very
little wear. When I investigated, it became clear, as everyone
else has found, that there is not much available in H-rated 13 inch
tires. Consequently, I began to make plans to get a set of larger
wheels and tires. To make a long story short, I got a set of 14 inch
Panasports, 14x6 for the front and 14x7 for the rear from Dale A.
Tires are Dunlop Sports, 185/60HR14 in the front and 195/60HR14
for the rear from Tire Rack. They look great and the ride has
improved immensely. I know that some have gone to 15 or 16 inch
wheels/tires, but I thought 14's would look more original (they were
an option on the Tiger II's). I don't intend to use the Tiger for any
competitive events, so this setup suits me. If, however, as someone
else has noted, you want a little more performance from the tires,
the Yoko EVS100's can be had in 14 inch sizes for a little more
money. In any case, new tires are a good thing, as Martha used
to say, and well worth it from the peace of mind perspective alone.
If you want to throw in a new set of wheels at the same time, it
makes sense. Now, is anyone interested in my old wheels - nice
condition, with lug nuts included?
