There have been a number of discussions on this topic and the "word" has
been that 190 is about the minimum temp for a SB Ford and temps of 220
are fine.
You did not give any other data on the type of driving or ambient
temperatures, so here is my advice: plan for the worst traffic on the
hottest day to make sure your cooling system keeps the coolant from
puking and you will be fine. I found out the 'hot" way my first season
out coming back from the beach when traffic stopped to a crawl and I had
to put the heater on full as the temp rocketed up towards 250. i had
shorts on and had to wrap a towel around my throttle leg to keep from
getting burned by the heat and to make matters worse there was a
thunderstorm nearby so the top was up!
If I had a cruising temp of 220 I would look to upgrade the cooling
system. If this is max at idle on a hot day, I wouldn't worry as it
should improve a bit as the engine breaks in.
