Hi Richard,
It's not immediately obvious how that would be related, except if the 
wire that bypasses the ballast resistor, that connects to the solenoid, 
was loose and rattling against a metal part on right turns - or if the 
solenoid had an internal fault that was causing the same thing to happen.

Hopefully this is the actual problem, unlikely as it would seem at first
