        Out of curiosity I took a look at the S IV Alpine parts car I have
and it has a similar hole in just about that location.   I'm not familiar
enough with Alpines to know what purpose that hole serves.    

Has anyone asked the seller of that car for it's VIN #?

Got my curiosity up so I checked B382000447, no hole as shown in the eBay
photo link below. Someone did add a hole for the transmission filler in
B382000447. The hole in the eBay photo is in the wrong spot for the trans
filler. The added hole in B382000447 is 6" back from the rear edge of the
hole shown in the eBay link. So that hole is for something else. Factory
holes should be smooth and round without any hand cutting, rough edges or
burrs.
