Check the crossover hose between the tops of the two tanks. A bunch of
years back I had a mysterious gas smell too. I discovered that this
hose had cracked only after filling the tanks almost all the way up, and
it flooded the trunk at the first sharp corner, doing irreparable harm
to the picnic lunch also occupying the trunk...
