It takes either a brave or foolish person to drop the clutch like =
that
on stock parts. I would not want a permanent limp from an exploding =
clutch.
Now it is possible that the Shelby prototype he did this to had some =
better
parts but I don't know.
=20
Most likely Don Tarbun started off like he had jumped into any other
typical British car of the time. Little did he realize how much more =
low
end torque he had under his foot and it greatly surprised him. I would
guess most people who drove that car for the first time had a similar
experience. =20
=20
I'll even venture a guess that some first time British driver of the =
Shelby
car went sideways or did a donut trying to get off the line.

I'm reading Mike Taylor's Tiger book. I read on page 51 that Don Tarbun =
got
in the prototype Tiger for his first drive ever and "revved the engine =
and
dropped the clutch. The back axle hopped so much, I thought it would
explode." What's with that? How many people get into a car the first =
time
and just drop the clutch? In fact, I don't think I've ever dropped the
clutch, even off the line at an autox - always waiting to make sure the
engine was fully engaged before full power. Did he intentionally want =
to
find something wrong with the car?=20

Or have I been wrong all these years and I should be far more aggressive =
on
my takeoffs?!

Jay
